Medicinal marijuana has become commonplace in many places around the world. Some states in the U.S. have now joined the likes of Canada, England, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, and Finland. Medical marijuana in the twenty states in the U.S. that have legalized it requires some sort of dispensary card. A dispensary card allows the card holder to legally posses up to an ounce of medical cannabis. A dispensary card is a helpful medical breakthrough for many people throughout the United States who suffer from chronic and debilitating diseases. A dispensary card does come with a rigorous application process. However, obtaining a dispensary card isn’t challenging if you have all the information you need to apply. A certified doctor must give a recommendation for a dispensary card; who has evaluated the patient’s need for medical cannabis.

Nevada, California, Oregon, and Colorado have all recently passed legislation legalizing medical marijuana. A patient’s ability to obtain a dispensary card is an important step in their journey to self medicate with cannabis. A dispensary card is only legal if it is issued by the state. There are no federally endorsed medical marijuana cards, as marijuana still constitutes a controlled substance according the federal government. A dispensary card will only be issued for certain diseases. Some examples of illness that a dispensary card will cover are AIDS, cancer, Glaucoma, and Multiple Sclerosis.

Medical cannabis is helpful in easing the pain in MS patients. Marijuana therapy has been shown to increase the appetites of cancer and AIDS patients. Medicinal marijuana is also used to ease nausea and vomiting in some cancer patients following chemotherapy or radiation. A dispensary card is limited in what it allows. A dispensary card is given for the express use of marijuana a medical remedy. A dispensary card is not meant for casual marijuana consumption. Many proponents of medical marijuana believe that use of a dispensary card is one step in the path to reverse the illegalization of marijuana completely.

Colorado is a U.S. state that has legalized cannabis for both medical and recreational use. A dispensary card limits the amount of marijuana that a card holder can possess. A dispensary card may specify how much processed marijuana or how many plants a patient can own. A dispensary card does not entitle a patient to sell marijuana. Nor can a patient obtain their medical marijuana from outside sources. A dispensary card only permits the card holder to acquire their medicinal cannabis from specific sources.
